Hello, I’m John.
I’m John, the founder and owner of Usambara Direct Tours and a local tour guide based in Lushoto, in the beautiful Usambara Mountains of Tanzania.
I help travellers discover the mountains in a more personal and authentic way. The Usambaras are not simply a destination I take visitors to — they are a place I know, love and enjoy sharing with people from around the world.
My guiding experiences include hiking trails, forests, viewpoints, waterfalls, villages, farms and local communities. I enjoy introducing visitors to both the famous highlights and quieter places that many travellers may not discover on their own.
More Than Just a Hike
Guiding is about more than walking from one place to another. I want guests to understand and experience the mountains — nature, wildlife, local culture, history, food, agriculture and everyday life.
My Approach to Guiding
Every traveller is different. Some guests come for challenging hikes, others for nature, photography, culture, food or simply the peaceful mountain environment. I work closely with guests to shape experiences around their interests, available time and pace.
